In the valley of the river Cesano – Terre di Fratulla – soils are loamy and rich of minerals and extremely fertile. In former times this land was reserved for the worldly and clerical nobility.

The speciality of soils supported by the mild weather conditions and the special micro-climate of the location produces excellent quality of wine and olive oil. The soil consists of sand and loam with a content of not more than 10% humus.

The reaction of the soil to heat is to encrust and thus moisture remains in the soil. When rain falls this soil soaks up quickly and stores the moisture.

The disadvantage is that soil preparation is time consuming and the wear and tear of machines is enormous.
